Overall very good. Reports on H&F MP3 Players
1. Introduction
1.1 Background
H&F Electronics has been producing MP3 Players for 15 years. Its market mainly focused on Asian Countries including China, Malaysia and Korea.
1.2 Purpose
In the light of increasing competition among the MP3 Player industries and the gradual decrease on the market share of H&F MP3 Players, Gary Connick, the Market Manager in H&F Electronics, has requested M&D Market Research Company to launch a market survey concerning the performance of H&F MP3 players by comparing that of iGADGET MP3 players.
1.3 Outline
This report contains the method and findings of a market survey of MP3 users on the satisfaction with H&F and iGADGET MP3 players in February 2011. Then various aspects and market shares comparison are presented and discussed, After that a conclusion is drawn and recommendations are made.
2. Procedure
The findings of this analysis are based upon market research carried out with MP3 users in February 2011. A sample size of 200 H&F MP3 users and 200 iGADGET MP3 users were interviewed and asked about the level of satisfaction of the six aspects for the two MP3 players. The six aspects include design, functions, sound quality, battery life, headphone quality and overall satisfaction.
3. Findings
3.1 Overview
The overall satisfaction level of H&F MP3 is just over a half while nearly two-thirds iGADGET users were satisfied. The satisfaction rate of Sound Quality of our MP3 players was over four-fifths and the over 60% of users were content with our battery life. On the other hand, the satisfaction level of Design, Functions, Headphone quality were lower than half, which will be further discussed together with the market share.
3.2 Design
Regarding design of MP3 players, we discovered that over half of the users were disgruntled with the H&F MP3 players, which is four times that of iGADGET MP3 players. It may be due to the limited color range and the heavy layout compared to iGADGET. The implication of poor design may cause customers to purchase other brands.
3.3 Functions
An even a larger number of users were disappointed with the functions of H&F MP3 player. the level of dissatisfaction is nearly two times that of iGADGET. This was almost certainly because of the unfriendly method to transfer music files onto H&F MP3 players, extra software is required to install on the user computer before transferring music file. This inconvenience may cause customer to try other brands.
3.4 Headphone Quality
Less than a third of customer were satisfied with the headphone quality of H&F MP3 players, which is slightly lower than that of iGADGET MP3 player. A possible reason for that is the poor quality control system in the headphone factory. This inconsistent headphone quality may lower the reputation of H&F Electronics as a whole.
3.5 Marker Share
The market share of H&F MP3 players has been declining from March 2010 to February 2011. This may be attributed to the incompatible image of spokesperson, Felic Chan(a 49-year old TV star), with our young, innovative MP3 players. The other reason for addressing the decline of Market share is because of the dissatisfaction on our product aspect. The probable result of this is the drop of sales and profit for H&F Electronics.
4. Conclusion
Overall, it is obvious that H&F MP3 players has lower satisfaction level than iGADGET MP3 player because of the lower market share and its product aspects, especially its design, functions and headphone quality, do not fulfill customer needs and expectation
5. Recommendations
In the view of the this market survey, I would like to make the following recommendations:
5.1 Design
Given that most consumers are discontent with the design, it is recommended that we can increase the variety of color and user lighter material to produce the MP3 player to reduce the weight.
5.2 Functions
In the view of the fact that there are frustrations of our mp3 functions, it is proposed that we can used a more user-friendly system, i.e. drag and drop system, in transferring music file.
5.3 Headphone Quality
in the light of the fact that there is complaints about our inconsistent headphone quality, it is suggested that we can improve our quality control system of the headphone factory, which can improve our brand reputation.
5.4 Market Share
Since we have declining market share, we could recruit a spokesperson that can better match our product image, i.e. Steven Leung, who is a younger musician that can attract our target customer.
